When playing at face up blackjack games there will be some times that the dealer will try to play your hand for you. When you want to make a certain play and the dealer just goes by you because he or she assume that you want to stand, what should you do?
There are certain hands that are more likely that this will occur. The soft hands of 18 or 19 are hands that you may want to double down on. For instance a soft 19 against a dealer 6 up card is the correct basic strategy play. Soft 18 against a dealer 3 through 6 are correct plays.
The dealer is supposed to wait for a hand signal from the player before moving on to the next player. However, I have had soft 18 or soft 19 and have had the dealer go right by me to the next player. When I have said something they will say that you had 18 or 19 implying that everyone stands on those hands. Usually, the pit boss will be called over to make a decision. Sometimes they will back up the cards but not usually. If you are a $5 player you might have a chance of a favorable ruling. If you are playing $25 or $100 chips I doubt it.
The way to keep this from happening again is to have your double down money out there before the dealer get to you. Also, when you have a soft 18 against a dealer 9 or 10 the correct basic strategy is to hit. Be ready to give the dealer the hit sign or he may just pass you by.
